The Piper Arrow Is Now Available to Outside Renters
Carmel Aviation is now renting the Piper Arrow II (N2865R) to qualified pilots outside of our flight school. If you hold a private pilot license with an instrument rating and are looking for a complex, IFR-capable aircraft to rent in Boise, this is worth your attention.
Here is what you need to know before you reach out.
About the Aircraft
The Piper Arrow II is a four-seat, retractable-gear single-engine aircraft with a solid reputation for cross-country capability and IFR utility. Our Arrow is equipped with IFR avionics, Garmin 430 GPS, and ADS-B In and Out. It has ample cargo space and retractable landing gear, which means flying it requires a complex endorsement.
For pilots who want to stay sharp on complex aircraft, build cross-country hours, or simply have access to something more capable than a standard trainer, the Arrow fills that gap well.
Current rental rate: $195 per hour wet. Instructor rate: $75 per hour.
What You Need to Rent the Arrow
The checkout requirements exist to protect you, the aircraft, and everyone else at the airport. Here is the complete list:
- Valid private pilot license
- Instrument rating
- Complex endorsement (if you do not have one, we can provide the training)
- Airport badge (required for access at Boise Airport; involves a five-year background check and can take up to one week to process)
- All current FAA and school-required documents
- Minimum of 5 hours flying with a Carmel Aviation instructor
- Minimum of 25 hours in type
Checkouts are valid for six months. After six months, a renewal checkout is required, which is a minimum of one flight. This keeps everyone current and the aircraft in good hands.
One important note: our aircraft are approved for paved runways only. No backcountry flying.
Getting Your Airport Badge
If you do not already have an airport badge for Boise Airport, we will walk you through the process. The badge requires a five-year background check through the Transportation Security Administration, and processing typically takes up to one week. Plan ahead if you are hoping to fly soon after reaching out.
We will help you get started on the paperwork.
Do Not Have a Complex Endorsement?
If your logbook is missing the complex endorsement, you can earn it with us before your Arrow checkout. Our instructors are available to provide the required training in the Arrow itself, so the hours you log toward your endorsement count directly toward your minimum hours in type.
Ready to Get Checked Out?
Reach out through our contact page and select "Aircraft Rental" from the topic dropdown. We will send you the current availability and walk you through next steps.
